The National Writing Project Blog Project Is Now Closed

Overview of the Project
The NWP Blog Project, conducted between the years 2003 and 2007, was a pilot project that grew out of the NWP network’s interest in how technology can both support effective practice in teaching and enhance professional development. The project’s goals were to support technology liaisons and technology teams at local writing project sites in experimenting with weblog and content management systems technology and to learn more about the uses of these systems and their impact on writing project work. The Blog Project was conducted through a Manila platform and supported by a National Writing Project contract with the Kern County, California, Office of the Superintendent of Schools.

Project participants focused on learning more about how new technologies can benefit teachers, students, schools, and writing project sites, and on investigating the challenges presented by their use. The decision to support experiments with Manila software grew from a relationship between the Bay Area Writing Project and technology leaders in Kern County. Through that relationship emerged the opportunity for national experiments with these tools. More than 50 local writing project sites participated in the project by designing blog sites for use in teaching, professional development, and project knowledge management. Many of the lessons learned have since been transferred to new projects and new platforms.
